Own Your Body Just The Way It Is Right Now!

Have you ever felt invisible because you didn’t conform to our culture’s impossible, unhealthy, abnormal beauty standards? This week we talk with Diane Israel, psychotherapist and professor of human development at Naropa University, about her autobiographical documentary, Beauty Mark: Body Image and The Race for Perfection. This deeply personal and funny film asks some tough questions … How do our families influence our relationships with our own bodies? How do popular culture “standards” get inside of our hearts and heads? In what ways can sports actually make us sicker instead of healthier? An elite runner and triathlete until age 28, Diane retired from competition after collapsing from anorexia (sometimes called “athletic bulimia”, a disorder many athletes suffer from, but which few experts knew anything about at that time). We pre-recorded this interview and are excited to share Diane’s candor, authenticity and wisdom with you.

Women’s Anatomy of Arousal: Take Back Your Sexual Power and Delight

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Everyday we’re exposed to an unprecedented barrage of sexual messages and imagery. Our pervasive, modern media uses sex to sell everything imaginable while dramatically limiting people’s understanding of what sex is really all about. People get little, accurate information that helps them have better sex or successful intimate relationships.

As women, we can’t step into our full feminine power without a more complete understanding our own, fabulous anatomy. It may surprise you to learn that our accepted cultural ideas and images of genitals are missing a lot of really good stuff. Our guest, Sheri Winston, sex teacher and Founder / Executive Director of the Center for the Intimate Arts, is on a mission to change that and create a culture that celebrates sex as our vital life force, a source of ecstasy, and the glue and lubricant of delicious intimate relationships. She’s the author of Women’s Anatomy of Arousal: Secret Maps to Buried Pleasure and is one of the country’s most respected teachers about sex and sexuality. Her specialized knowledge is derived in large measure from her two-decade career as a certified nurse-midwife and gynecological practitioner. This conversation will completely change the way you think about and inhabit your body!
